Gyumri

Gyumri is Armenia’s second-largest city and its recognized cultural capital. Located in Shirak Province, about 120 km from Yerevan, the city is famous for its humor, artistic spirit, traditional urban architecture, and vibrant local identity.

The historic Kumayri District preserves over 1,000 buildings from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Other highlights include the Black Fortress, Vardanants Square, museums, churches, artisan studios, and delicious local cuisine — particularly khash and Gyumri-style kufteh.
